Hi there and welcome to Pastel Craft Cafe! I’m Chel, the author of this little blog. Thank you so much for stopping by to share my crafting journey with me!
About Me
I’ve loved to create about as long as I can remember. Art was my favorite class all through elementary and middle school. I even have a lot of my old projects stashed away that I made during those years.
My mom also nurtured my creative interests by taking me to all kinds of different art and cooking classes for kids. I have a lot of fond memories from these classes and I think those experiences really helped contribute toward my love of all things arts and crafts related.
When it came time for me to start working, I took a job at a craft store that was near my house. At the time it was only supposed to be for a short time, but in the end I ended up working there for a little over ten years.
As with any retail job, it was far from sunshine and roses. But I loved being able to work in a place that was related to my favorite hobby.
Over anything else, my favorite thing to do at work was stock the shelves. I was always excited to peek through everything we were selling to look for new inspiration.
I worked with customers a lot too and I had so much fun meeting other crafty people and chatting about their projects. It was so interesting seeing all the different projects that they were working on. And it was always so rewarding when I could inspire someone with their project or teach them something new.
When I started my job, I mostly liked to draw, sculpt, and do a little bit of sewing. By the time I put in my resignation, I had added jewelry, various papercrafts, woodcrafting, and all kinds of other craft-related things to my ever-growing list of hobbies.
And even since leaving I’m still collecting new interests. Most recently I’ve been learning how to paint, though I don’t have much time for that right now.
Other than crafting, I enjoy spending time with my friends and family, cooking and baking, reading, and relaxing out in my favorite chair in my backyard.
About Pastel Craft Cafe
I quit my job at the end of 2019 due to some personal issues. And for several months everything else was put on hold so that I could focus on that.
During that time I spent a lot of time at home. I had a lot more free time so I was mostly watching a ton YouTube videos, especially crafting ones. The more I watched, the more I started thinking that maybe I could do something like that.
So I did a bit of research. I wanted to try and get an idea of how much I could make by making crafting videos.
During that research I was introduced to the option of blogging. Now of course I had read my fair share of craft blogs over the years. But the thought of actually starting a blog for myself had never crossed my mind.
After giving it some thought I decided to take the plunge and within a few months I had officially launched the Pastel Craft Cafe website. I started with a very basic tutorial on the running stitch that I felt could be a good concept to build off of.
It’s been quite a long road and I have learned SO MUCH about not only blogging, but managing a website as well. And although it’s been a lot of work, it’s been an enjoyable experience so far as well.
Trying to come up with fresh ideas to blog about has pushed me to be more creative with my projects than I would have on my own. And I have a notebook full of ideas for crafts I want to make in the future.
However you happened to stumble on my site, I’m glad you’re here and I hope you find some projects to inspire you.
